Joanna Sio was part of Singapore’s very first all-female touring comedy group, “Comedy on Heels”. Sio, a prominent name on the Singapore stand-up comedy scene, has performed live all over Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America (Canada).

She has been a guest at numerous comedy festivals, including the Singapore Comedy Fringe Festival, Manila Improv Festival, the Magners International Comedy Festival, Kuala Lumpur International Comedy Festival and Fringe World.

Sio won second place at the 2012 HK International Comedy Competition while she was nine-months pregnant. In a comment under a video from the finals on YouTube, one of her fans writes: “I am a big fan of Joanna, she is funny on stage especially when she is pregnant. Keep going, get pregnant on your next set ! I mean get ready… X)” and another adds “I don’t like female comedienne because they sound so ‘wannabe’ funny but you are the exception. Love it.”

She was invited to perform in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2015, the first troupe of ‘Comedy Zone Asia’ and represented Hong Kong in Laugh Factory’s Funniest Person in the World Competition in 2016. She is a featured comedian on Comedy Central Asia. Sio also gives workshops for beginner comedians, according to her “Being funny is just step one” (TedX Talks).
On Friday, you can also meet a new addition to Velvet Comedy’s line up – Grant Gallacher from Scotland. Grant is a sharp, witty joker who talks about his life, loves and hates. He was a 2012 finalist of ‘Scottish Comedian Of the Year’ and has also appeared on BBC Radio Scotland and performed at both the Fringe and Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
