Brno, Nov 13 (BD) – A complete renovation of the square including all underground utility mains began in early April. The renovation has returned the square to something closer to its original historical design. A new tree-lined alley has been created in the lower part of the square (where Veselá would continue) and benches have been installed.

The archaeological survey that preceded the renovation work revealed the foundations of a Romanesque tower. The exact location of the tower was previously unknown.

Petr Vokřál, the Mayor of Brno, and a representative of Skanska, the building contractor, will cut the ribbon and explain the details of the renovation work at the opening ceremony on Wednesday morning.

“The end of the renovation work will be immediately followed by the construction of the Christmas markets so that Brno residents will be able to enjoy the established gourmet Christmas as usual,” said Radka Loukotová, from the City of Brno Press Office.
