Brno, Nov 15 (BD) – Brno residents who have already paid the first car fee in the second wave of residential parking may now apply for a refund. As Brno Daily previously reported, the City Council had decided that residents would not need to pay the first car fee for the first six months (from November) for the new residential parking area.  The second phase of residential parking covers the area bound by Údolní, Úvoz, Kotlářská, Pionýrská, Drobného, and Milady Horákové.

Applicants can apply electronically, in person at the office at Zvonařka 5, or by post. For more information, see the official website (https://www.parkovanivbrne.cz). The website is in English as well as Czech, but the form is available only in Czech (http://bit.ly/Vratka_RP).

Charges for visitors in the new zone are lower than originally planned. Under the current regulations, visitors can park their car for free for the first hour. They will then pay CZK 10 for the second hour, and CZK 20 for every extra hour after that.

Brno has long been troubled by a lack of parking spaces in the centre. The city’s representatives are seeking to improve the situation for residents and visitors. For this reason, the city company Brno Transport Communication [Brněnské komunikace] is currently evaluating options for the construction of new car parks in Brno. In four years, the number of parking spots is expected to increase to 4,550. “The new car parks will have a capacity of between 300 and 2,000, depending on the needs of the particular district. All the car parks should be built by 2022,” reported the City Press Office. The cost is estimated to be more than CZK 1 billion.
