Brno, Nov 22 (BD) – A silver BMW hit a 52-year-old man who was crossing a busy street near a pedestrian crossing. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man died at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision. The driver drove away following the crash, according to a report from the South Moravian Police Department this morning.

About one hour later, the police officers investigating the case who were searching for the missing vehicle received information about a car fitting the description on fire, in the vicinity of Útěchov. Shortly after, police located the driver of the vehicle in the village and detained him. The 43-year-old was under the influence of alcohol, with a test showing 2 parts per thousand. The suspect refused a drug test. During a search, the police patrol also found that he was carrying an unregistered short firearm.

“To investigate the case, the police welcome information from witnesses or camera recordings from vehicles or safety systems tracking the movement of the damaged silver BMW 530,” said police spokesman Bohumil Malášek. Police have not yet released the car’s license plate number. “According to the results of interim investigations, the car was heading from the crash site in Brno to Adamov and then to Útěchov,” Malášek added.
