Brno Expat Centre (BEC) is preparing a cosy and nostalgic Christmas get-together on Thursday, December 13, with the goal of taking you back to the Czech and Slovak Christmas traditions of the past. Image: BEC.
Brno, Dec 10 (BD) – According to the centre, this event is a brief trip down memory lane: “We took inspiration from the decor of this year’s Christmas party venue, Café Flexaret, and we’d, therefore, like to show how a Czech and Slovak Christmas looked in the not-so-distant past. For most of us who remember it as children, they were happy times spent in a large family circle with toys and sweets.”
The Retro Christmas Party will remind people of the Christmas periods back in the day, especially the older generation of Czechs and Slovaks, because ‘’the adults knew the downsides of hunting for presents that were hard to find, or standing in a long queue for oranges, bananas and tangerines for St. Nicholas day, which was the only time of year they could be found in shops,’’ says Kateřina Báňová from BEC.
The BEC team is preparing traditional Czech Christmas sweets and drinks, and guests are also welcome to bring samples of their own national Christmas sweets to share. A photo corner will be set up with Czech retro accessories, and the party will also be child-friendly, with a kids’ corner and themed activities.
As well as that, Báňová commented that: “Everybody’s free to write us a message about their experiences with BEC and what events they would like us to organize for next years, such as seminars, guided tours and speakers.”
