Brno, Dec 11 (BD) – The first working day following the introduction of the new train schedules ran with no significant complications.
Passengers now have to keep track of the new departure and arrival times, as well as noting which train station they need to wait at, and possibly also the timetables of the replacement transport. “When I realised that there was no train from the usual platform, I got confused in the morning, and I forgot to check the new schedule. I think it is going to be pretty difficult for people to take a bus or tram from the city centre to arrive at other stations and change their daily routine,” said one passenger who regularly commutes between Vienna and Brno.
Trains are only able to enter platforms 1-4 of the Central Railway Station from the direction of Židenice. Trains from Břeclav, Vyškov, and Slavkov, as well as long-distance services, run through the Lower Station [“Dolní nádraží”].
The changes also apply to RegioJet trains, which all now pass through the Lower Station and stop in Židenice.
The main connection between the Central and Lower stations is the Number 61 bus line.
Replacement trains are running between Židenice and Central stations at regular short intervals, with some of them continuing to the station in Královo Pole. A new more frequent line, P6, has been introduced connecting Královo Pole station with the Central Station.
Buses E63 and E77 are running from the Central station to Chrlice and Slatina respectively.
The Lower Station has been equipped with a new waiting room, a ticket desk, and bathroom facilities.
Staff is present at the stations to provide information and help people find their connections.
The reduced timetable will continue throughout next year and will end on December 15, 2019, when the security system at the station in Brno will be activated.
