Brno, Dec 13 (BD) – From Friday afternoon, visitors to the Christmas market on Moravské náměstí will notice a new attraction beside the Ferris wheel: a statue of The Titanic over two metres long. In front of the market-going public, the sculptor will carve the statue out of one-ton ice blocks. The sculptor will start his preparations at 1 PM and is expected to finish his artwork around 5 PM. The ice statue is related to the Titanic exhibition open at Brno Exhibition Centre (Read more in our previous article “In Photos: Genuine Artifacts from The Titanic on Display at a Unique Exhibition in Brno”).

“It is very difficult to create an ice statue of The Titanic. A statue of over two metres will be created from a few deep-frozen ice blocks. The blocks were created with special technology, so the ice is crystal clear,” said Květa Havlová, the curator of the exhibition.

The ice statue will remain on Moravské náměstí until it melts, and should be available to view for at least a week, depending on weather.

An international Titanic exhibition started in the Brno Exhibition Centre in October and will run until the end of March. The exhibition features hundreds of original artefacts retrieved from the sunken ship, including handbags, clothing and industrial parts. Visitors have the chance to walk through the corridors, see the first- and third-class cabins, and touch the iceberg.
