Data Aggregator Numbeo Publishes 2019 Quality of Life Index Placing Brno Above Prague, London, and New York

Brno, Jan 21 (BD) – Metrics recorded in the database, which was launched in 2009, include crime, healthcare, housing indicators, consumer prices, and many others. In total, the database includes over 1.3 million individual pieces of data, used to produce a detailed index of 226 cities around the world.

The index for 2019 was published last week, and named the Australian capital Canberra as the global city with the best quality of life, followed by Eindhoven in the Netherlands in second place and Raleigh, North Carolina, in third. Brno was ranked in 89th place, eight places ahead of Prague (97th). However, both Czech cities used to be ranked much higher, around 50th place. Moreover, Brno was left trailing far behind Austrian Vienna, which was ranked 16th on the index.

Other major cities ranked lower than Brno included Brussels (111th), Madrid (112th), Bratislava (117th), New York (140th), Milan (158th place), London (163th), and Paris (164th).

The city judged to have the worst quality of life was the troubled Venezuelan capital, Caracas (226th).

Quality of Life Index is an estimation of overall quality of life by using an empirical formula which takes into account purchasing power index , pollution index, house price to income ratio, cost of living index, safety index, and many others (Numbeo 2019).
