Brno, Mar 15 (BD) – Many students attended the protest at Náměstí Svobody which started at 9:00 am today. With around 3000 people showing interest on the event on social media, many attended to protest climate change – in solidarity with other protests which also happened today in other countries, including Germany and Austria.
Though the protest was for high school students to voice their dissatisfaction, the protesters were not limited to high schoolers – there were some university students, and other people who joined to support the cause.
The protest began by gathering at Náměstí Svobody at 9:00 am – which is typically the time students must be at school. Many of the attendees carried placards which expressed their dislike for global warming. The group of protesters also marched around Brno’s city centre, and circled back to Náměstí Svobody for more speeches.
Throughout the Czech Republic in various cities such as Brno, Prague, Olomouc and more, high school students were encouraged to skip school on Friday, March 15, to support “Fridays for Future”, which is a growing international movement of students who decide not to attend classes – and instead partake in demonstrations or protests against the lack of policies to prevent further global warming and climate change.
