Welcome to the new section “What’s Up in Brno?” – where every Sunday, we will offer you an overview of the city events for the next week! We list only English-friendly events, otherwise it is mentioned in the event description. Image credit: Casadei Graphics.

Brno, May 5 (BD) – Events and festivals continue to flourish in Brno! Glen Hansard coming down to Brno, Majales music festival, Dance Brno festival, the long awaited ExpArt exhibition, board games, food, sport… You will not get bored!

The second edition of Science Party Brno is finally here! This year’s topic is water. Come to Otevřená zahrada on May 6 and enjoy lectures, entertainment program, a music band and many more. The event is free of charge and family-friendly. Multiple activities with English instructions will be available and several English speaking attendees will be at the event. The official website presents the program only in Czech, but information in English is on the Facebook event.

In December we announced the ExpArt exhibition in a story on our website – artists from all around the world will be making art based on the theme of migration in Czechia. The inauguration day has arrived! Come on May 7 at 7 PM at Schrott Gallery, and meet the seven artists from different countries – you can also attend a music performance. Entrance is free, more info can be found on the Facebook event.

Each year, the international festival DANCE Brno presents modern and classic ballet performances. The 2019 edition will run from May 7 to June 26 at Mahenovo divadlo and Janáčkovo divadlo.

Do you want to meet people and to make news friends? Invite yours, and come on Thursday to the 100% English friendly May MeetUp by Foreigners Brno. It’s the opportunity to discuss with other students, workers, moms, dads, couples and singles in a friendly atmosphere… Check the Facebook event and don’t forget to fill this online form if you decide to come.

Who said that only students have the right to enjoy festivals for youth? Come to the 9th edition of the Studentský Majáles Brno on May 10 from 1 PM at Areál Hněvkovského and spend a beautiful day in a young and multi-music genre atmosphere! More info on the Facebook event (only in Czech).

And what if you spend your free time playing board games? Play more than 200 games at the “Jarní Deskovaní” festival from Friday to Sunday! The event is English-friendly and all you need to know is on the Facebook event.

Are you a beer lover? The Cabbage Market Square (Zelný trh) will be the meeting point for all of you from May 10 to May 12. Several microbreweries will be there to offer you a taste of their products. The Facebook event is only in Czech, but well, the taste for good beer is international.

Whether you look for a new item for your disc collection or just for a vintage decoration, you will find what you need at the Vinyl Market on May 11 from 11 AM to 5 PM in Stará Pekárna. You will find more info on the official website (Events descriptions are available in English). On the same day, a flea market will take place in Alfa Pasáž in the city centre from 3 to 6 PM. These two events are part of the “Week of the City” program (“Týden města”). Several activities will be organized until May 19 and you will find them in next week’s What’s Up Brno article!

After the Charity run for Světluška last month, the RunTour 2019 is coming to Brno on May 11! Powered by Česká Pojišťovna, the goal is to collect money for The Human Safety Net, a humanitarian organization. Every participant has to pay CZK 50. Different distances for the runs are organized: a 5 km run, and a 10 km run. A 500-meter and a 1-kilometer courses are planned as well around the lake in Bystrc. This event is non English-friendly but you don’t need to speak Czech to run and to enjoy the event!

Almost every week, Brno has food events. This week, four cafés & bars cooperate to propose a unique event close to one of Brno’s beloved parks: Food&Drink Fest nad Lužánkami on May 11 from 10 AM. A day full of food, drinks and music! Sounds tasty? Find more on the Facebook event (in Czech).

Glen Hansard is coming to Brno! The famous Irish guitarist, singer, composer and actor will be on the Sono Centrum stage on Saturday for a show starting at 8 PM. You still can buy your ticket online and find more here (website in Czech).
