Brno, May 16 (BD) – As a part of the celebrations for 150 years of public transportation in Brno, DPMB is opening the doors to the Medlánky depot. On May 18, visitors can enter the depot and central workshop from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM – entrance is free of charge.

Visitors will be able to take a look around the depot, where the buses and trams end up after hours. The central workshop at Medlánky will also be able for public viewing – which is where trams receive repairs, maintenance, and more.

The afternoon will be having a program, starting with an opening ceremony at 12 PM; there will also be a demonstration by rescue services with commentary at 1:30 PM (in Czech). There will be presentations for visitors to see what would happened when a tram gets derailed, and how it gets back on track – at 2:30 PM, 3:15 PM, and 4 PM.

For those who are more interested in the technology, a presentation of the Brno Public Transport Management and Information System (RIS II) will start at 3:30 PM. The RIS II is responsible for easy communication between the drivers and dispatch center, provides vehicle tracking, and makes the public transport drivers’ work much easier. The presentation will be also held in Czech language.

Transport to the depot is offered from Náměstí Svobody, and passengers will experience tram rides in style. Retro and vintage trams will provide the chance to feel a blast from the past, courtesy of Brno’s Technical Museum and DPMB.
