Brno, Jul 14 (BD) – The music festival season started, but concerts are not the only events you should attend this week. A lunar eclipse, two historical anniversaries, Shakespeare, farm markets – and the biggest summer festival in Czech Republic!

Although we are in South Moravia, on Monday the Bohemia JazzFest will conclude its tour with a free concert in Brno. International Jazz stars Krzysztof Kobylinski, Daniele di Bonaventura and the Elmhurst College Jazz Band will take the stage at Dominikánské Náměstí from 7 PM. You can read the full program on the event website

Get carried away by a moonlight shadow – on the night of July 16, a partial lunar eclipse is happening and you can watch it from the Brno Planetarium from 10 PM to 1 AM. You can find more information on the Facebook event

On the same day 50 years ago, the Apollo 11 space vehicle departed from the Kennedy Space Center, on its way to change the history of humanity. To celebrate the anniversary of the Moon Landing, the Brno Planetarium has organized events and activities from Friday to Sunday, and you can even see an inflatable replica of the Moon! You can find more information on the Facebook event

With its romantic atmosphere, the Castle of Valtice is the perfect location for a night out, away from the city. On Tuesday and Wednesday you can let the music from the musicals “Dracula” and “Cleopatra” carry you away from 8 PM. Tickets start from CZK 350 and you can find more information (in Czech) on the castle’s website

Even if there is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so, the Summer Shakespeare Festival doesn’t respect the rule according to fans: it’s the best festival ever! The event will take place at Špilberk Castle from July 17 to August 11, presenting premieres of new performances as well as reprises of old favorites.

We know it’s not in Brno, but how could we not include one of the biggest summer events the Czech Republic has to offer? Colors of Ostrava will take place from 17 to 10 July and music legends such as The Cure, Florence + The Machines, Mogwai, Years & Years and many others are in the line-up. You can buy the tickets and read the full program on the official website. If you want to know more about other music festival happening this summer don’t forget to check the special edition of What’s up Brno we published last week!

Had enough of unhealthy fast food and want to try something more authentic? From Thursday to Saturday you can taste South Moravian seasonal and local products at the Slow Food Market at Zelný Trh. You can find more information here (in Czech).

Craving for the acquired earthy taste of local products? Do you want more? Don’t worry, on Saturday there is a Farmers’ Market in Brno-Líšeň as well. Enjoy smoked sausages, fresh meat, eggs and more. You can read more (in Czech) here.

You will probably feel young if we tell you that Gregor Mendel is born 197 years ago. Just think about how many peas have grown during that time! But did you know that he was a renowned beekeeper as well? If you want to discover more about him and his life you can attend the “Mendel Is… a Beekeeper” Festival on Friday and Saturday. Several events will take place at different venues around Brno. Read more on the official programme.

Do the memories of summer parties you attended feel faded? No worries, Alan Walker will make you dance on July 20 for the Camp festival. This is one of the most significant electronic dance music events, featuring seven big names from the world of DJs during two days. Find all the information you need and buy your tickets here.

Want to feel like a true viking? On Saturday you can compete at the Drakkar Dragon Race held at the Brno Dam. You and your team can register until July 16 and race under different categories. Find more information (in Czech) on the official Facebook event

Oh, so you like vikings, but they are not your favourite historical characters? During the weekend you can attend the Historical Fair at Nový Hrad near Blansko, 30 kilometers north of Brno. You can find more information on the castle’s website
