In June, Brno residents had the opportunity to respond to a poll whether they agree or disagree that the city of Brno would lease its land to circuses with wild animal species. Almost 2,000 voted in the poll out of which more than 1,500 voted against the lease. Photo: Stock picture / Freepik.

Brno, Aug 1 (BD) – The poll was initiated by the Brno city management, which was interested in finding out the opinion of residents. People voted through the Brno iD account, or in person at the branches of the Jiří Mahen Library and the Brno Tourist Information Center.

Every citizen of Brno over 15 years of age was eligible to vote.

A total of 1,919 people expressed their opinion. 79% of voters (1,517 people) expressed their disagreement with the lease of land of the City of Brno to circuses with wild animals.

“The results of the survey serve as a basis for further negotiations with city districts. Based on Monday’s meeting [22/7], we agreed to send a letter in which we recommend the management of city districts to consider the possibility of not renting the land to circuses with wild animal species,” said the second deputy mayor Tomáš Koláčný.
