The previous City administration proposed an extensive reconstruction of Veveří. However, there were a number of objections to the proposals. In response to the objections, the current City administration has agreed to split the reconstruction work into two phases. The first section covers the area between Žerotínovo náměstí (close to Česká tram stop) and Grohova, the second covers Grohova and above. Photo credit: Brno Daily.
Brno, Aug 13 (BD) – Veveří has long been in a rundown state. The section between Žerotínovo náměstí and Grohova will be reconstructed with the tram stops remaining in the same locations as today. The second section will reflect the newest trends in city planning, with all stops in the street being wheelchair accessible. The technical study will also focus on pedestrian crossings, green spaces, parking options and the adjustment of pedestrian and cycling routes, to be in line with the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan and other policy documents.
In addition to planned works, Brno City Transport Company wants to replace the tram lines on the street. “A plan for the organization of the work is under development. For example, in some sections we are considering allowing vehicles to park for 15 minutes in order to maintain access to shops, of which there are many in the street,” said Deputy for Transport Petr Kratochvíl.
The date of commencement for the work on Veveří is not yet known, but the technical study is a necessary step in the project.
