Brno, Aug 29 (BD) – Zátopek (2020) is a forthcoming feature film from the Czech director and producer David Ondříček, about Emil Zátopek. The script was written by Ondříček and Alice Nellis, and Václav Neužil ml. will play the character of Zátopek. Ondříček has already made a documentary about Emil Zátopek, released in 2016. The main events of the film take place in the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, where the famous runner won three gold medals in the 5,000 and 10,000 metre races and the marathon. As the stadium in Helsinki is currently under renovation, these scenes will be shot in Brno’s Za Lužánkami stadium.
Emil Zátopek (1922 – 2000) was a famous Czechoslovak long-distance runner. In 2013, Runner’s World Magazine named Zátopek the Greatest Runner of All Time – Zátopek is the only man in history to win the 5,000 metres (24 July, 1952), 10,000 metres (20 July, 1952) and Marathon (27 July, 1952) in the same Olympics.
The launch of the filming in Brno was attended by city representatives, including First Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík.
