Brno, Aug 13 (BD) – Until now, the discounts on regional bus and train transport approved by the Czech government this Spring have not applied to public transport in the cities. However, DPMB has decided to apply the discounted fares to public transport in Brno. The new discount system was approved by the city government (Zastupitelstvo), announced Brno Mayor Petr Vokřál last Thursday via Facebook.
Children under the age of 15 will be able to travel for about half of the current price; fares for senior citizens over 65 will decrease by about 60 percent. For example, children aged 15 and under will be able to use public transport for 15 minutes for only 5 Czech crowns.
DPMB has also introduced a new monthly ticket, so-called “navazující jízdenka”, for the zones 100 and 101. “With long-term uninterrupted use of the new ticket, its price will be similar to the discounted annual ticket, offering customers the opportunity to pay this price on a continuous basis. This is especially appreciated by students or seniors, for whom the one-time fee for the annual ticket [šalinkarta] can be too high,” said Vokřál in the official press release.
Currently, children under 10 and people over 70 can use public transport in Brno for free.
