Brno, Aug 21 (BD) – Winemakers are able to delight the fans of “burčák” earlier than usual this year, thanks to the sunny, hot weather that we have been experiencing this summer (Radio Praha, “Burčák Season Arrives Early This Year”, August 8, 2018). The Czech law allows the sale of “burčák” starting August 1. Numerous winemakers decided to start harvesting grapes as early as July this year and wait with selling “burčák” for August to comply with the law.
The demand for “burčák” is high, according to Radio Praha. The sellers report to have sold 500 litres in only first four days of August.
“Burčák” is partially fermented young wine and it is a very popular drink in Moravia, Austria, and Bavaria. This alcoholic wine drink is produced when pressed grape juice is partially fermented. Its consumption is typically connected with the first autumn days.
According to many winemakers, this year’s wine harvest will be remarkably more abundant than last year, when it was affected by a long-term drought.
