Brno, Oct 3 (BD) – Yesterday, the Observatory and Planetarium at Kraví hora hosted an opening ceremony for the new “3D Planetarium”. “The 3D planetarium completely breaks the boundaries between fiction and reality,” said Jaroslav Kacer, Deputy Mayor of the City of Brno, according to the official website of the Observatory and Planetarium.
In principle, there are two projection systems. The first one, as the audience is used to, covers the whole dome with a resolution of nearly 25 million pixels screened at a rate of 120 times per second, in more intense and contrasting colours, thanks to the latest laser-phosphor projectors. The second system requires visitors to wear special glasses filled with liquid crystal filters. The crystals alternately cover the right or left eye, in perfect synchronization with the projectors. In the human brain, however, the two views combine and create a 3D effect. Space objects, spaceships, and dream places will all be as lifelike as in the IMAX cinema, but on a 17-meter hemisphere screen.
The total cost of the investment is estimated at 50 million CZK, according to the official website of the Observatory and Planetarium.
