Mikuláš Bek, Rector of Masaryk University in Brno, won the first round of the Senate elections in the Brno Senate district No. 59, otherwise known as Brno-město, with nearly 40% of the vote. Brno, Oct 8 (BD) – Mikuláš Bek received 38.17%, and Jaromír Ostrý 18.70%. In third came KDU-ČSL’s candidate, Jan Špilar, with 17.73%.
Mikuláš Bek was nominated by the Mayors and Independents (Starostové a nezávislí) and was supported by the Greens, ODS and TOP 09.
The second round will be held on Friday 12th October and Saturday 13th October.
