Brno, Oct 25 (BD) – A hall for the Lerchova Community Center, a youth clubhouse under Bílá Hora, and a digital departures board in the underpass beneath the main train station. These three proposals won the most support from the public at a special “medal ceremony” at New Town Hall on Monday, October 22.

Brno was one of the first cities in the country to introduce the concept of participatory budgeting, in which citizens decide how a part of the local budget should be spent via a democratic vote.

Dáme na vás”, the first set of participatory budgeting projects for Brno, was launched at the beginning of 2017. That year, the city allocated CZK 20 million to the development of these projects, with each initiative receiving up to CZK 2 million.

This year, the city has allocated CZK 30 million to the participatory budget, an increase of CZK 10 million from last year. At the same time, the maximum limit for each project has been raised by 50% to CZK 3 million crowns. Read more in our previous article: “Participatory Budgeting 2018: Call for Projects”.

The final vote by Brno citizens will take place online from November 1-22 at https://damenavas.brno.cz/.
