The expansion of Brno’s residential parking system will begin on Thursday, November 1, as planned. A proposal by the Pirates and the Christian Democrats (KDU-ČSL), to postpone the extension of the blue parking areas until the beginning of April, did not pass. However, charges for parking in the new zone will be lower than originally planned. Photo credit: Casadei Graphics.

However, the City Council has revised the charges for visitors and residents in this part of town. At a meeting on Tuesday, October 23 the council decided that visitors and residents will not pay for their first car for six months.
Those who have already paid the first car fee of CZK 600 may apply for a refund, as reported by Czech online daily iDnes.cz (“Start druhé vlny modrých zón v Brně se neposune, ale řidiči ušetří”).
The newly formed coalition, represented in the outgoing City Council by the Pirates and KDU-ČSL, wanted the second phase of residential parking to be completely free of charge.
