A unique 2500 m2 exhibition, taking visitors back a hundred years to the luxurious surroundings of the most famous ship in the world, opened this Monday at the Brno Exhibition Centre. Photo credit: Casadei Graphics.
Brno, Nov 1 (BD) – The story of the Titanic has it all: poverty and luxury, comfort and the hard beds of the third class, epic romance and disaster. From this Monday until next Spring, visitors to Pavillion C of the Brno Exhibition Centre will be able to walk through the corridors, first- and third-class cabins, see the lifeboats, and touch the iceberg, the nemesis of the Titanic.
The atmosphere of the greatest ship of its time has been recreated at the Titanic exhibition using the music of the era and the sounds of the engine room, which can be heard while walking through replicas of the famous staircase from the Titanic movie, the French cafe, and the boiler room. Hundreds of original artefacts retrieved from the sunken ship will also be on display, such as handbags, perfumes, clothing, and various industrial parts.

“In recent years, the Titanic exhibition has been on display in Bratislava, Prague, and Budapest. The Brno edition is the greatest, as it combines the best elements from them all,” said Petr Suchánek, Head of Production of the organizers, the JVS Group. This is the last chance to see the complete exhibition, as the items currently on display in Brno will go up for auction after the end of the exhibition.
The Technical Museum of Brno helped to recreate the beginning of the twentieth century by loaning the museum’s oldest exhibit, a 1910 Austro-Daimler automobile, and models of a steam engine and locomotive.
All exhibits have descriptions in both Czech and English. Audioguides will also be available in Czech and English, according to exhibition curator Květa Havelková, who was stylishly wearing the “Heart of the Ocean” necklace known from the Titanic movie on the exhibition opening day. Havelková added that there is also a special program for kids, including a “kids walk”, a trivia quiz, and small gifts at the end of the exhibition tour.
The exhibition was opened on October 30, and runs until the end of March 2019 in Pavilion C of the Brno Exhibition Center. Entry is CZK 300 for adults on working days, and CZK 350 at weekends.
The Titanic sank in the early hours of April 15, 1912, with almost 2,250 passengers on board, of whom around 1,500 died in the cold waters of Atlantic. The wreck of the ship was found in 1985, 70 years after the disaster, and remains on the seabed until today, slowly falling apart…
