Brno, Nov 20 (BD) – The jubilee 5th edition of the festival started with a fashion show and a live musical performance by Czech artists on Friday, and offered interactive workshops and artistic and technological installations. According to Jan Špičák, the marketing and PR manager of the festival, “we estimate that around 450 people came for the opening ceremony on the first day.’’
Špičák explained that the main goal of the festival is “to connect science, technology, and art”. The art installations included elements of science and used state-of-art technologies. One of the most eye-catching creations was Syfy, a psychedelic UV image created by Dominika Vamberská. Other distinctive artworks in the exhibition included Inside, a room with luminescent skulls created by Miroslav Macík, and the Red Queen by Martin Králík, which transported audiences into the story of Alice in Wonderland
“The Makers” DIY fair was one new feature of this year’s Prototyp Festival. Numerous creatives exhibited a diverse array of original, handcrafted art and technological products, displaying the sharply rising trend of combining modern technology with crafts. Many of the creations involved 3D printing.
“People really enjoyed the ‘Makers’ fair and workshops, because they could try to create something there by themselves,’’ said Špičák, mentioning one example: “Visitors used lathes to make wooden toys and other items.” At the workshops, LED lamps and products could be created on programmable sewing machines, and gifs could be made on site.
According to Špičák: ‘‘We want more people to get involved for next year’s festival. We are also trying to translate everything into English because there are many Erasmus students in Brno and we want to make it accessible for them.’’
There will be an open call from the Prototyp Festival in Spring 2019, and Špičák said that: ‘‘Exhibitors, makers, and artists can participate if they follow the open call between March and April and register. If people want to participate as exhibitors, we recommend they show us something tangible, such as a prototype or photo- and video documentation of their project. We also wish more students from technical fields would participate.’’
