Moravian Gallery in Brno [Moravská Galerie v Brně] launched a virtual gallery website this week, following the modern path as many other international galleries and museums. The second biggest art gallery in the Czech Republic now displays art on-line.
The first item officially added to the gallery’s inventory dates back to June 5, 1817; exactly two hundred years ago. Upon this anniversary, the gallery opened a website that contains more than 200,000 artworks: paintings, etchings, sculptures, and many more.
The website allows a comprehensive view at each item the gallery owns or will own in the future. The art fans may search artwork by its author, age, technology, material, or place of origin. The new website provides a detailed description of each item. Students, researchers and ordinary art-lovers can schedule a personal tour to view the selected objects.
Starting with the oldest item – a Greek vase dating back to 500 BC – ending with contemporary art – we do advise you to visit the gallery and see the itinerary in person as nothing comes close to appreciating beauty of art first hand.
