Being the beer-nation as it is, Czechs love festivals of the world’s oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic beverage. This Friday and Saturday at Zelný Trh in the city center, there will be a mini-festival of microbreweries.
The visitors can look forward to tasting a variety of beers from 17 breweries across the Czech Republic such as Lucky Bastard, Bizon, or Kyjovský breweries. So called microbreweries, often independently owned family businesses, are dedicated to making beer artisan, natural and quality.
The choice of beers is stunning: from lagers made of Belgium malts to ales of pale malt and American hops. You can try Brewniverse brewery’s beer special called “Ponožky v sandálech” [loosely translated “Socks in Sandals”] or beer from Tišnovský pivovar, from the town known for excellent beer since 13th century.
Are you a fan of ales? “We’re fed up of the boring beer brewed according the hundred times repeated recipes […]. We’re bored watching the dominance of bottom-fermented beers — the usual pilsner-type lagers — when such a fascinating and colorful world of top-fermented beers, ales, exist,” writes Lucky Bastard brewery on its web.
Fun beer fact: Did you know that Josef Groll created the first modern, golden beer in 1842 in Plzeň (Pilsen), Czech Republic? Most of the contemporary, golden beers of today are distant copies of the original Czech Pilsner.
There will also be exceptional wine from Ondřej Břečka producer. Along the drinks, Mikrofarma is going to cook dishes suited for even the most meticulous meat lovers.
The festival is organized by Brno-Center District Municipality (Městská Část Brno-Střed), Jaroslav Zelina, and František Štolfa.
