Brno/London, Apr 30 (BD) – “The National Theater Brno is getting into the company of the best artists and ensembles from the whole opera world. This is an incredible success after just 6 years of the festival…,” said Martin Glaser, NdB Director.
The 6th International Opera and Music Festival Janáček Brno 2018, which took place from 17 November to 5 December, is gaining acknowledgement in an international context. The 2018 festival was a record-breaking event with 13,278 paying viewers from more than 30 countries around the world.
In 2018 – the year of Czechoslovak centenary – the festival organizers chose to open the Janáček Festival with the opera The Cunning Little Vixen, which is the same work that gave the theater its premiere when it opened its doors in October 1965. The programme of the 6th festival was dedicated to the work of the festival’s namesake, Leoš Janáček.
The very positive reception by the audience and the professional public has been formally confirmed by the prestigious The International Opera Awards, which the festival received at the ceremony on 29 April 2019 in the theater Sadler’s Wells in London. The International Opera Awards is a internationally-acclaimed award in the field, often referred to as “Oscars of the opera world”.
