Festival Ibérica starts this Wednesday, June 28. Ten days of the festival will be like a trip to Spain, Portugal and Latin American countries all together. Time to pack up!
Music, dance, art exhibitions, cinema (Ibérica Cinematográfica) and Spanish and Latin-American food (Ibérica Gastronomica) – Ibérica brings the best what Spanish culture has to offer in Brno. What more, you can learn flamenco, salsa, tango, castanets, and typical guitar play at special festival workshops!
Last year, Ibérica was visited by an impressive number of visitors – 3 500 – and as such, became one of the largest festivals of its kind in Central Europe. Maria Cristina Roa, PR Coordinator of Ibérica, thinks that the popularity of the festival arises from the combination of traditions and program variety (dancing and music shows, workshops, gastronomy, cinematography…). “Every part of the Ibérica festival attracts its own type of visitors. Some people prefer gastronomy, while others enjoy the flamenco show the most and others come to Brno because of workshops. And there are lot of people who enjoy everything from these activities during the Ibérica,” she adds and smiles.
For one evening (June 29), Spilberk Castle will vibrate in passionate Flamenco rhythms of the festival. Flamenco Gala Concert is bringing the fiery temperament of the Spanish dance to Brno and promises to all its fans an exciting event overflowing with good music, dances, and traditional Spanish delicacies.
When I hear the word “flamenco” powerful dancers dressed in the deep red gowns and folkloric music come to my mind. Famous Flamenco dancer Alba Heredia will share her impressive talent and passion for the dance with the audience accompanied by just one guitarist and two singers in a tribute to Granada’s Flamenco. Snapping fingers and claps will enhance the performance with a clean but strong rhythm. “Many flamenco stars perform for the first time in the Czech Republic when they come for Ibérica Festival,” says Maria Cristina.
Singer Alba Molina, famous for impressive combinations of pop, Bolero, Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms, jazz, and Flamenco will offer an amazing music performance to keep the majestic atmosphere of Spanish flamenco night.
Spanish, Portuguese and Latin american wines and especially Sherry are world-renowned and on Thursday June 29, you’ll have the chance to taste them all in the small courtyard in Spilberk castle. Traditional delicacies will be available to accompany the wine tasting. Are you busy on Thursday? Fiesta Gastronomica – the big day for Brno’s foodies – starts on Friday at 11:00–21:00 at Moravské náměstí.
We are sure families would like to enjoy this cultural event all together. “Children can enjoy some sweets at the food festival and the flamenco Galashow at Spilberk as well. We also organize special ritmo latino and flamenco dance workshops for children. There is no official age limit, but we suggest from 4 to 12. These workshops are for free and we hope that they will inspire some children to make flamenco a part of their lives,” quickly responded Maria Cristina when we asked if the festival is family-friendly.
The festival wraps up with a final Fiesta at Luzanky Park on Sunday (July 2) promising an exciting closing party full of Latin American melodies, more good food, drinks, and dancing.
