Brno, Jun 4 (BD) – On June 4, 2019, at 6 pm, the international art event Brno Art Open, also known as Sculptures in the Streets, will open in front of the House of Arts. The sculptures will be on display to the public until August 11.
The works in this year’s festival are located not only in open urban spaces, but also in the interiors of public buildings and institutions (schools, museums or greenhouses in the botanical garden), in temporary architectural structures and other key locations in the city.
Brno Art Open tracks memories of the city’s bottlenecks, remembering the events in their past. The selected locations are a backdrop for discussion of wider issues.
The curatorial team of this year’s festival, which is associated with the Café Utopia platform, consists of Katarína Hládeková, Zuzana Janečková, Marika Kupková, and Markéta Žáčková.
The selected subtitle of the show “I Am A Dependent Object” was based on the discussion about the fate of the sculpture created by the sculptor Sylva Lacinová for the facade of the building of the Associated Research Institutes in Brno (1975–1988). During the reconstruction of the building by the Pelčák and Partner architectural office in 2012, the sculpture from the main façade was removed because it was not included in the new architectural designs. The sculpture still doesn’t have a permanent home, but will be on view during Brno Art Open, above the entrance to the House of Arts on Malinovskeho namesti.
