Brno, Czech Rep., Aug 21 (BD) – The company Leo Express, owned by the entrepreneur Leoš ‘Leo’ Novotný, plans to increase its number of connections and extend existing routes to Bratislava, the capital of neighboring Slovakia, via Hodonín and Břeclav in South Moravia. “For Leo Express, this will be the first entry into rail transport in the South Moravian Region,” spokesman Emil Sedlařík told iDnes.cz, adding that the company’s buses already go through the region, with stops in Brno and Mikulov on the line connecting Krakow and Vienna.
Sedlařík told iDnes.cz that the company plans to use the trains it purchased in China from the world’s largest train manufacturer, CRRC. However, they are not yet approved for rail operation in Central Europe. According to Leo Express, new trains developed in cooperation with CRRC “will have, among other things, a spacious interior and new kitchens with plenty of space for even more refreshments. They will also feature a lot of technological innovations that will contribute to environmental protection. Trains will have low-floor passenger access.”
In the Czech Republic, Leo Express recorded a net profit of over CZK 2.5 million last year. The company is also reporting growth in its rail fleet: “From December 2019 we will carry out our public service obligation in the Pardubice region, and also with our partner in the Zlín region. Modern diesel units, Leo Express LINT, are under construction for these lines. We will also bring the quality of Leo Express services to regional lines,” explained Jakub Svoboda, Director of Leo Express for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
