Brno, July 13 (BD) – Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (Státní zemědělská a potravinářská inspekce, CAFIA) has recently found extremely toxic pesticide in the batch of 7 tons of dried fruit imported from China.
Goji berries are mostly used in making wine, tea, granola bars or consumed as dried fruit.
Carbofuran is one of the most toxic pesticides. It is used to control insects in fields of potatoes, corn and soybeans. It is absorbed through the roots of the plant that later releases the toxin to the consumer body.
The pesticide has got the same nerve agent as the military class chemical weapons and is officially banned in Canada and EU as it was found to facilitate diabetes and cause a number of other symptoms ending with death.
CAFIA has ordered Diana Company LLC to withdraw the batch and inform its customers about the potential danger. This is not the first time the Inspection found the banned pesticide in Chinese imports.
Earlier this year, CAFIA imposed a fine on another Chinese fruit exporter for releasing 2 tons of toxic products to the market.
