The court accepted complaints raised by a taxi company with support from Brno City Hall. Uber drivers supposedly have not passed required tests and their cars are not equipped with taximeters which compromises the all-equipped and licensed taxi services normally operating in the streets of Brno.
The injunction will be however binding only when a Dutch translation is delivered to Uber, the court said. The company operates in the Czech Republic through a Dutch subsidiary.
Uber, which has been operating in Brno since Feb. 1, can yet appeal the ruling.
The statement issued by Brno City Hall claims it is not against mobile applications and new taxi services but they have to be provided in line with the law.
Uber argues it is not a common taxi company but the court ruled that it is.
Some see in the push against Uber the efforts of local close-to-be-monopoly taxi services that has been operating in the city for decades.
Some of Uber’s services are banned in other European metropolis. The company continues to drive passengers in the Czech capital, Prague.
