During the first days and months of invasion of the Soviet Union troops, four people died when the forces of the SNB (Police), the people’s militia, and the army intervened in the streets of Brno.
On this day 49 years ago, the Soviet occupiers shot Josef Žemlička, a sixteen-year-old apprentice, and a 30-year-old electrician from Zetor Viliam Debnár. The victims of tragedies are commemorated by plaques on the Jihlavská and Jedovnická streets.
Another victim, an eighteen-year-old tailor Danuše Muzikářová was shot from the rear when she was running away in the crowd by the church at Jakubské náměstí.

On the same day, Stanislav Valerach, a 28-year-old woodworker from Kovalovice, was murdered when the SNB troops were chasing demonstrators at Zelný trh.
At the places of tragic events, there are two memorials and two memorial plaques where the flowers were placed today.
