The Brno city hosts the 43rd edition of EKOFILM, the International Film Festival on environmental, natural and cultural heritage.
During the event, there will be an exhibition of over 140 pictures from 30 different countries to depict the interaction between people and their environments.
EKOFILM also intends to raise public’s awareness about the increasing environmental challenges around the globe. The event promotes a nice and ludic learning atmosphere for both kids and grown-ups.
During the festival, there will be held lectures and discussions about the most relevant topics related to environment; from the Reflection on Environmental Backwardness to the Carsharing trend.
The main theme of 2017 edition is the fourth element – air. “With the water, which was the main theme of the festival last year, the air is vital to the life of each of us. Yet, we have big problems with air pollution, especially in large cities and industrial agglomerations,” Ladislav Miko, the president of the festival, says.
“It attracts positive and like-minded personalities that have given the festival its unique and specific atmosphere,” the organizers explain.
The highlight of the program is a film competition. The professional committee will chose the best out of pre-selected 25 out of 2500 films submitted to compete during EKOFILM. The results will be announced this Saturday.
“Quality films in the EKOFILM competition and non-competition section are an important source of the latest information on the state of nature and the environment in various countries,” Eco-film organizers inform. You can look forward to such titles as The Sexual Practice of Trees, End of Snow, Life by the landfill, or Bugs – Nature’s Little Superheroes.
The screenings take place mainly at student Scala cinema. Other festival venues are: Otevřená zahrada Nadace Partnerství – Údolní 33, Fakulta sociálních studií – Joštova 10, EkoExpo nám. Svobody, or Moravské náměstí park.
The initiative of EKOFILM started in 1974. In 2009, the festival beat the record of 8.000 visitors, and in the following year, presented 226 films from 40 countries.
