Brno, Nov 15 (BD) – This popular cultural spot of Brno-center district, Klub Leitnerova also known shortly as “Leitnerka”, underwent big structural modifications, switched to a completely new set-up and opened up a café. Its founder, Brno-střed (Brno-center) town hall, in cooperation with Leitnerka team, wants turn this well-known spot into Old Brno’s main cultural center.
This club situated on Leitnerova street has been operating since 1950’s, and played its role of a cultural center despite the fact its appearance and operational possibilities haven’t changed much since the beginnings. Through years, Leitnerka attracted fans of film production, folk or rock bands and various other subculture enthusiasts. This club’s tradition included various music and cultural programmes such as anti-disco by Jiří Černý.
The popularity of Leitnerka, in contrast with the appearance and old age of the facility, had led the founder of the club and its general manager “Kávéeska” to seek change for this legendary Brno club.
“As running operations of any cultural facility well requires constant innovation and improvements, we decided to work in agreement with the Leitnerka team. Not only from a technical and operational point of view, but mainly because of the need to reflect the rapid development of culture,” David Butula, Councilor for Culture, Sport and Tourism, describes.
The first phase included building modifications inside the building itself.
“We have adapted the layout of Leitnerka for future use. Based on the design of the architect Szymon Rozvalka, from the bar room we created a modern café named “Café Leitnerka” with fixed working hours, expanded and modified the hall in order to achieve maximum multifunctionality and variability. The concept is also friendly to disabled visitors and the building is completely barrier-free, ” David Butula explains.
The reconstruction required about CZK 680,000.
The new concept wants to attract students close to their schools, as well as seniors and families with children. Music continues to be the pillar of the club, but is widened by inclusion of other genres such as jazz, folklore, world music, experimental music, contemporary classics, musical projects, etc. The new setup will keep a schedule of regular theater evenings, which could be complemented by workshops in the future.
The programme will include listening sessions, screenings, regular exhibitions focusing on Brno authors and exercise. Leitnerka will offer opportunities to theatrical actors from all over the country, and will focus on drama, theater and often neglected theater forms. The club also counts on children’s visitors. For schoolchildren, schools and kindergartens, as well as for the public, it will prepare entertainment and educational programs, children’s disco and in the summer months, suburban camps.
“Our goal was to return Leitnerka the social credit it deserves. Not only is the new programme wide and inclusive, but its new look will surely be a good attraction. At the same time, we want to get along with people from the neighborhood. We will therefore try to minimize possible negative aspects of crowd noise,” Butula adds.
