Brno, Nov 17 (BD) – Brno’s art group “Malujeme jinak” [“We paint differently”] came up with a solution for the neglected facades in the city – mural art.

Malujeme jinak turns degrading walls into a huge canvas!

With mural art, the artists express their patriotism, while making Brno’s streets more attractive for passers-by.

On Václavská, the artists painted a several meters tall mural depicting Brno and its symbols.

The artists placed Brno’s Old Town Hall in the center of their piece. In front of the Town Hall, there are Brno’s tram, naked angel (inspired by the one at Saint Jacob’s church).

The symbol of the city, Brno’s dragon [drak in Czech; means “dragon” and also “kite”], is flying over the Town Hall.

The word mural originates from the Latin word murus [“wall”]. A mural is a painting applied directly to a wall usually in a public space and is organically connected with architecture.

Also the artists from Malujeme jinak took advantage of existing physical architectural elements. For example, the mural tram has a real window.

Malujeme jinak already plans murals for other four buildings in Brno. We can hope to see new murals on Koliště, Cacovická, Cejl, or Vídeňská streets.

People can support their artwork by voting in terms of Brno’s participatory budgeting project (find more info and vote here). The best projects will be financially supported by the Municipality of Brno.
