Brno, Dec 15 (BD) – Romanian air carrier Blue Air will launch five new routes from Brno at the end of March of 2018.

The other two will start flying in the summer.

The Regional Council supported the launch of the new lines by the establishment of a new company, Blue Air Moravia Transport, in which the region will have a 35% share.

The new five destinations will be Milan, Rome, Barcelona, Brussels, and Lviv.

Over the summer, there will be two more connections to Split and Dubrovnik.

The decision was taken after Wizz Air left this year. Ryanair offers only regular fares to London at the moment.

“It is a historic opportunity for the region and it will help it to grow further,” Governor Bohumil Šimek said in a press release.

Blue Air will fly with Boeing 737-500 with a capacity of 126 seats.

The frequency of the flights is set three times a week for Milan and Brussels and two a week are scheduled for all the other destinations.

“We believe that new lines will soon find their passengers. Airport Brno has the great advantage of being compact, check-in is fast and passengers do not have to spend unnecessary time waiting. I believe that the comfort and speed that the airport can provide will help to increase the attractiveness of the lines,” Milan Kratina, CEO of Accolade Group and owner of Brno Turany Airport, said.
