Velvet Comedy, the weekly English language stand-up comedy event from Prague, is coming to Brno.
Founded by Prague-based comedienne and promoter Kristýna Haklová in April of last year, Velvet Comedy aims at promoting the English language comedy scene by hosting events headlined by both native Czech and expat comics. You can look forward to seeing the best from the Czech, European, and world comedy scene.
Haklová, an alumnus of Masaryk University who doubles as an arthouse film distributor, expects to run the event in Brno twice a month beginning this Saturday at Naproti Absinthe Bar.
Saturday’s event will be presided over by master of ceremonies Lucie Macháčková who, after being awarded Humorfest’s Best Newcomer Award in 2015, has experienced considerable success, including regular appearances on Comedy Central’s Comedy Club.
In addition to an opening set by Velvet Comedy founder Haklová, the show will feature performances by two outstanding American comediennes, Liz Dunehue and Katie Anderson.
Anderson, from Omaha, Nebraska, has been in the comedy business for ten years and performs in major clubs across the US. She has also been performing regularly in the Czech Republic over the past three years.
Dunehue, a Seattle native, also spent time honing her craft in the twin cities of Minneapolis-Saint Paul, where she was a finalist for the Funniest Person in the Twin Cities award. Fortunately for us, she relocated to the Czech Republic last year.
If previous editions of Velvet Comedy are any indication, Saturday promises to be an evening of all-out hilarity. Doors open at 7:00pm and the laughs begin at 8:00pm.
Tickets are available at the door, but discounted prices can be had if you purchase ahead of time on GoOut or through this event’s Facebook page.
