Brno, Feb 1 (BD) – Between Jan. 20 and 30, Brno municipal police reported 360 cases of parking violations. “The results have shown that dozens of drivers do not respect the rules,” police spokesman Jakub Ghan said.

In agreement with the city and the municipally owned Brno Communications Company a.s. (Brněnské komunikace, BKOM), the Brno municipal police allowed drivers to get accustomed to the changes in the city’s parking system, especially to the new night rates, in the first half of January. “Now it’s necessary to start enforcing the rules,” police spokesman Jakub Ghan explained.

“We wanted to make it possible for the general public to get acquainted with the new parking system. One month should be sufficient. Therefore, beginning in February, we intend to monitor the selected locations more frequently,” Luboš Oprchal, director of Brno Municipal Police said. “We will focus on parking at night and we will start using wheel clamps,” he added.

“The new prices for parking in the center should encourage the city’s visitors to park their cars in car parks. Parking in the streets should be easier for the residents,” Deputy Mayor for Transport Matěj Hollan said.

Notable changes to parking in the city center include an increase to CZK 30 for half an hour and CZK 60 per hour during the working day. Parking rates on weekday nights have also increased to CZK 30 per hour. On Sundays and public holidays, parking remains free of charge.
