Brno, Mar 6 (BD) – The Brno City Transport Company introduced a concept of a regular “conditional amnesty” in 2012. Four (two day and two night sessions) are held annually. Passengers do not know their dates in advance.
“If, on a day of conditional amnesty, we find a passenger without a valid ticket, he has the option of purchasing a minimum of a quarterly transport pass. When he buys at least a quarterly transport pass, we don’t issue him any fine. They only pay an administrative fee of 50 crowns,” Miloš Havránek, the Director General of DPMB, explained.
In 2016, the DPMB inspectors caught 67,982 fare dodgers. Overall, 27.5 million crowns were collected in fines, the same amount as in 2015, and 4.5 million crowns more than in 2014, DPMB yearly statistics show.
“DPMB workers offered an amnesty to 3,848 passengers without a valid travel document. Exactly one thousand of them, 26%, chose this option,” Vít Prýgl, head of the DPMB Tariff Department said in the official press release.
Since 2012, there have been 21 amnesty periods. “DPMB plans to continue with these events in the future,” DPMB spokeswoman Barbora Lukšová added.
