Since 2016, a law that restricts sales in large outlets during selected holidays has been in place. The law prohibits stores bigger than 200 square meters from opening on certain holidays.
Brno, Mar 28 (BD) – March 30, Good Friday, is a public holiday. Shopping malls, large stores and supermarkets, however, will remain open.
Big stores can open their doors on Good Friday. No restrictions apply to Easter Sunday, April 1, either.
According to the law, they will, however, have to close on Easter Monday, April 2.
On Easter Monday, the only option will be to buy in stores smaller than 200 square meters, at petrol stations or pharmacies, or at shops in airports, train stations, and public institutions such as hospitals.
Some customers deal with the limited access to goods by grocery shopping in e-shops that provide home delivery. But online vendors’ shops cannot be larger than 200 square meters, either; otherwise, it is a violation of the law.
What happens if big shopping malls open their doors on Monday? Fines go up to millions of Czech crowns.
