After five consecutive weeks of male headlining acts, Velvet Comedy returns to Naproti Absinthe Bar on Wednesday with a comedienne who brings an element of diversity to the stage.
“Raised in Miami Medellin and New Jersey, there is no role she cannot play and her comedy reflects this extravagant mix in her Latina-tude, Catholic guilt and American dreaming,” reads the description of Liliana Velasquez on this event’s Facebook page. “She is proud to be queer and not perfect, and enjoys waking up in the afternoons.”

Despite waking up in the afternoons, Velasquez’s brings boundless energy to the stage, complemented by elastic movements that reveal her background as a dancer. Her routines incorporate a lot of personal anecdotes which, given her Colombian Catholic background, often have an element of heritage comedy to them.

Naproti Absinthe Bar will open their doors for the show at 7pm on Wednesday evening, with Velasquez taking the stage shortly after a welcome bit from Velvet Comedy founder and MC Kristýna Haklová at 8pm.
