Supporting charities is personally fulfilling and it helps those in need.
Today there will be a charity bazaar where you will be able to find some interesting German books and DVDs for yourself, or pick up some special gifts for your German-speaking friends.
The bazaar will take place from 12pm to 6pm at Jazyková škola, Kotlářská 9 (map), a language school that is providing a free place for the event to be held as well as some promotional support.
The idea of making this bazaar came about when Lothar Wallheim, a German national who used to live in Brno, decided to give away his books on the Facebook group Internationaler deutschsprachiger Stammtisch Brno, and Eva Borecká, who organised this bazaar, contacted him.
“There were a lot of people who wanted his books, and I wanted to share them, not just keep them for myself. So, I got the idea of organising a public bazaar and selling the books to help charity. Lothar immediately agreed to this idea. So I contacted Lenka Bukovská, my friend and co-organiser of this bazaar, and we immediately began to plan it,” explained Borecká.
“We decided to support a non-governmental organisation – V růžovém sadu,” she added. “They help mentally challenged people by giving them meaningful activity – a real job with a real salary. That means a lot to these people and there is no other place like that in South Moravia. They don’t have enough money, so they’ll appreciate the support.”
