Brno, Sep 19 (BD) – Brno citizens voted and shared their own visions for the city. The outcome shows a high demand for more greenery, better transportation, relaxation zones, improved sports facilities and parking system.

“The air of Brno is polluted mostly due to the individual car transport. We want to reduce it by supporting public transport, in addition to support for cycling and walking”, Deputy Mayor Jaroslav Kacer said for Czech regional daily Brněnský Deník.

The strategy of improving Brno’s air will bring great changes and considers opinions of Brno’s citizens. “We are now trying to discuss the project as much as possible with people. In addition to joint discussions, people could go to our website, where we counted five thousand visits,” Kacer added.

The official website #Brno2050, also available in English, is an online parallel to the actual strategy which will shape Brno in the future. The experts and public have pinpointed several key values in three fields – Quality of LifeGovernanceResources.

In each section, you can find a brief summary of particular value and you can vote with your like or leave a comment.

Values chosen by citizens will be prioritized by experts and authorities in the final blueprint of the new Strategic Plan, “Brno 2050”, which will be adopted for the period 2019-2050.

Some of the comments suggested more greenery in central streets like Masarykova and more accessible parks in the city center. Expansion of sports grounds is another frequent request. “We have decided to add a part called Sports City to the plan”, Deputy Mayor confirmed.

A comment in the Quality of Life section of the user named “Aled Long” submitted in English language reads: “Clean air is essential for healthy living. Secure park and ride or even park and hire electric vehicles on the edge of the city. Bicycle hire points and a pedestrianized town with strict access control for goods vehicles.”

Other commentators in this section require better health education at schools or further restrictions of smoking in public.

The suggestions of the first round are not limited only to the health or environment. People requested better social care for elderly people and handicapped, too.
