Brno, Feb 4 (BD) – The number of patients with the flu has increased to 1,960 per 100,000 inhabitants and has exceeded the epidemic threshold.

“The increase in the number of people with the flu and acute respiratory illnesses is common in this period of the year,” Renata Ciupek from Regional Health Hygienic Authority (KHS JmK) said.

Regional Health Hygienic Authority says the situation in the region is not serious, but recommends that people comply with recommendations on personal hygiene and illness prevention.

The development of the situation over recent weeks shows an increase in the number of cases of influenza, mainly influenza type A and B.

Influenza A and B are the two main types that routinely spread in humans and cause seasonal flu epidemics.

Hygienists have declared a flu epidemic all over the Czech Republic; the most serious situation is in the Liberec region. On Saturday, the regional hospital in Liberec banned visitors to all departments, effective immediately, due to the flu epidemic, Czech Television reports.
