Brno, May 16 (BD) – The ranking is annually announced by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which specialises in the quality of education around the world.

The results for the new Student View category, based on ratings from students and recent graduates, are surprising – they suggest that the most iconic and popular cities (London, Paris, New York City) do not necessarily live up to expectations, while smaller or lesser-known cities often make for happier students.

Quacquarelli Symonds – Ranking in the category of “Students View”, 2018

1 Montreal (100 points)
2 Munich (99 points)
3 Melbourne (98 points)
4 Prague (97 points)
5 Vienna (94 points)
5 Brno (94 points)
5 Berlin (94 points)
5 Stockholm (94 points)
5 Amsterdam (94 points)

Last year, Brno ranked fourth globally, while Prague came in second. The best student city in the world was, according to students, the Canadian capital, Ottawa. The top 5 was completed by Shanghai and Montréal in 2017.

“The student perspective or ‘student view’ is just one of the indicators used to compile this ranking,” the QS website explains. In the overall 2018 rankings for “QS Best Cities”, which considers the factors of affordability, desirability and employer activity, Brno came in 63rd. The top three were London, Tokyo, and Melbourne.

“Of the other indicators, Toronto deserves attention for being the most desirable student city, while Budapest is ranked top for affordability,” QS concludes.
