Brno, July 26 (BD) – Lions are back to the ZOO Brno after long 14 years. If everything goes as planned, Brno will be a home to lion cubs of lions Lolek and Kiva in the future.
The 2-year old Katanga lion named Lolek has reached his new destination – the ZOO Brno this week. He travelled from the Polish city Gdansk to meet his 5-year old mate, lioness Kiva from Lisbon.
Planned presence of lions was a trigger of 2016 reconstruction providing 2000 m2 of a new exposition of wild life of “newly-wed” lions. The area is now ready to host them.
Since July, lions have been encouraged to engage in mating rituals and on August 26, they will be publicly presented along with their new residence – an outdoor enclosure designed with greenery and bordered with trails for visitors offering view points such as a crashed airplane or a native’s shelter in the jungle.
Until the August public presentation, there is possibility to watch mating rituals of Lolek and Kiva on-line (find the streaming here). “We have placed cameras into the indoor enclosure. A live broadcast of mating lions can be watched on our website,” informs the spokesperson of the ZOO Brno Gabriela Tomčíková.
Lions are back to the ZOO Brno after 14 years. The last lion named Bali left in 2003 for France. The ZOO Brno could no longer promise desirable conditions for breeding lions although lions had been in Brno constantly since 1953.
