Brno, June 13 (BD) – Latest data of the Czech Statistical Office have shown the highest death rate in the first quarter of 2017 since 1994. Almost 32 thousand people died in the first quarter, which is 3.6 thousand more than the last year in the same period. The number of deaths was especially high in January, a flu epidemic season. Although the numbers may look grim, it is due to the seasonality of the births and deaths that the numbers are so daunting.
Brno and South Moravian Region
According to results, there lived on 31 March 2017 a total of 1,178,815 inhabitants in the Southern Region. In the first three months of 2017, their number has increased by only 3 persons.
In the South Moravian Region immigrated about 509 people, more than moved out of the region.
In the South Moravian region, the population increased only in 3 districts – most in the district Brno-Country (about 310 inhabitants) in the district of Břeclav (21) and Vyškov (19). It should be noted that the preponderance of deaths over births was recorded in all districts in the region.
In the first months of 2017 there were recorded 874 abortions in the region (about 41 fewer than the previous year).
