Brno, Oct 5 (BD) – Art cinema (kino Art) is moving from the Distillery on Pekařská to the Gallery of the Tourist Information Center (TIC) on Radnická in the city center. The contract with the Distillery, a historical distillery, has expired in October.

The project of Art reconstruction envisaged the works on cinema’s home scene at a functionalist house on Cihlářská to be finalized these days.

Recently more asbestos has been discovered in its walls. Reconstruction of the Cihlářská scene will continue next year.

Same poisonous substance is causing delays in the reconstruction of another important cultural site in Brno – Janáček theater (Janáčkovo divadlo).

Toxic Asbestos Prolongs Reconstruction Of Art Cinema And Janáček Theatre

Originally, the Art Cinema reconstruction was scheduled to take place last summer.

However, in the pre-project phase, the technical survey revealed that asbestos had been used in the construction of the house.

This delayed the commencement of the works and complicated the demolition.

The screening on Radnická should start in the upcoming weeks.

“We have already made some changes in the layout of the gallery, we have moved offices and now we are negotiating with the owner about the amount of the financial contribution,” TIC Director Jana Janulíková said.

Art Cinema is one of the last urban theaters in the city of Brno. It is managed by Brno Tourist Information Centre. Art wants to be a “decent counterweight to multiplexes, not only to focus on more sophisticated viewers, but also on a wider audience groups such as parents with children, seniors or youth and students.”
