Brno, Oct 10 (BD) – This summer, the National Anti-Organized Crime Investigation Service caught a human traffic ring.
Two women and two men were accused of trafficking three underaged girls to work as prostitutes in a nightclub in South Moravia, near the Austrian border.
Two of the offenders were arrested and the other two are being charged. The Brno’s Regional Public Prosecutor’s office is taking care of the case.
All the criminals will serve a sentence between five and twelve years.
Beside smuggling and forcing the girls to hand all the money earned, the traffickers made the adolescents become addicted to drugs.
“They provided them drugs on a regular basis. The money for drugs was deducted from the amounts paid to the girls for the sexual services,” according to the official statement of South Moravian police.
In total, the offenders are prosecuted for the crimes of human smuggling, children endangering, illegal prostitution, handling narcotics and psychotropic substances. They face from 5 to 12 years in prison if convicted.
Human trafficking is still a huge concern in the Czech Republic.
“The Czech Republic has always been a source, transit, and destination country for trafficking,” the national coordinator of La Strada Czech Republic, Dr. Irena Ferčíková Konečná, explained to Expats.cz.
The majority of the victims come from countries in southern or eastern Europe, such as Romania, Ukraine and Bulgaria.
