Brno, Oct 23 (BD) – On Friday at 2 AM, a water pipe burst in Kotlářská street at the intersection with Botanická street, causing a huge water spill.
Immediately after the pipe explosion, the muddy water from the pipeline could be seen flooding the street.
The waterworks representative confirmed that water had been leaking for more than one hour.
The area between Kounicova and Pionýrská was closed due to the water spill.
The burst of the water pipe limited water supply and the transit in that area. Only trolleybuses could drive through.
Vehicles were forced to choose alternative routes in parallel streets to Kotlářská street.
Brno Water Supply and Sewerage Systems expects to finish the reparation works on October 24 (updates here).
According to the official Brno Municipality statement, the incident occurred due to due intense traffic load. The water pipe has a hole of 2 meters in length. The last problem of this water supply was recorded in 1954.
